How to Add a Self-hosted Journey Cloud Sync?

If you're using Journey and looking to add a more private, secure way to sync your journal entries, setting up a self-hosted cloud sync can be a great solution. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to establish a self-hosted Journey cloud sync.

Step 1: Create a New Sync Drive

Setup self-hosted Journey Cloud Sync.
Login to your self-hosted Journey Cloud Sync's admin dashboard.
Navigate to Sync Drive by clicking on Journey > Sync Drive.
Click on Create new.
Enter a Display Name for your sync drive.
Create a Token Name.
Select the Owner.
You can enable end-to-end encryption for added security by inserting a passphrase.

Enter a display name, token name, select an owner and input passphrase for end-to-end encryption.

Some meta data is excluded from encryption for the app's basic functionality, such as the display name of the drive, and the date and time of the journal entries. It is important to note that this action cannot be reversed if end-to-end encryption is turned on. You will also not be able to use the Search function on Journey if you choose to turn on end-to-end encryption, as this prevents Journey from indexing your journal entries.

Please keep your passphrase safe. Your journal entries and data would be lost if you do not remember your passphrase.

In this screenshot, there are 2 tokens generated for "daddy" and "mommy". "Daddy" and "mommy" will use their tokens separately to link the sync drive to their respective Journey app.

After completing these steps, your sync drive will be created, and an API token will be generated. Keep this token secure and do not share this with anyone unnecessarily. You can regenerate a new token if your current token has been compromised. If you want to share your sync drive access with close friends or family, you can create additional token keys.

Open the Journey app on your device.
Go to the Settings menu.
Select Data & Cloud Services.
Choose Create a new cloud service.
You will be prompted to fill in the following details:
URL of Domain: Provide the domain URL where your sync drive is hosted.
Sync Drive ID: Enter the unique identifier for your sync drive.
API Token: Input the token generated in Step 1.
Press Submit to finalize the setup.
